FOREST SCHOOL ASSISTANT

JOB DESCRIPTION: forest school ASSISTANT to join our exceptional team at Hackney, London.

We believe the outdoor learning environment is the optimum environment for our little explorers. Our approach at Forest Grove is guided by the Forest School approach where learning is play-based and child-led: children from the ages 3-5 are taught through first-hand real life experiences; allowed to follow their own interest and we given them the tools they need to manage their own risk. 

Forest Grove Hackney is a fully outdoor environment, which makes learning fun and supports our learners to be curious and creative problem solvers. This approach provides all learners opportunities to achieve and develop confidence, self-esteem and resilience.  

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with outdoor learning experiences in the Early Years, who is passionate about nature and early years education and has an in depth knowledge of the EYFS curriculum.

The Forest School approach

Forest Grove follows a holistic learning approach focusing on the whole child: mind, body and spirit. Holistic learning recognises that every child is unique and develops at his/her own pace.  Our ideal candidate are tasked with ensuring a high standard of social, physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual care for children aged 3-5 years.  

You’ll work with our team to create a safe, stimulating and enabling learning environment, where children can learn through play. You will work with our team to ensure an all-inclusive environment in which the children are supported and encouraged to achieve their full potential.

What we are looking for in our ideal candidate:

·      Undertaking their Forest School training or has a Level 1, 2 or 3 Forest School Qualification

·      Minimum two years experience working with 3-5 year olds

·      Experience and passionate about outdoor learning.

·      Some experience of working in childcare/ an Early Years provision desirable

·      A real enthusiasm for nature play and engaging children with the outdoors

·      Some knowledge of working within and implementing the EYFS statutory framework desirable

·      Some experience with an Ofsted Inspection desireable (training will be provided in this respect)

·      Organised, reliable, resilient and motivated practitioner.

·      To ensure the EYFS curriculum is delivered in a way which prioritises child-centred practice where the needs of the children is at the centre. 

·      To work collaboratively with the team and to ensure that as a practitioner, you deliver a high Quality of Education

·      To deliver sessions to the children which are of a high standard and have been thought out (risk assessments; materials; resources; intent of learning; learning style). 

·      To be able to build good relationships and rapport with children; parents and practitioners alike

·      To assess and evaluate your key child’s learning and development and write up progress and development reports for your key children  

·      To ensure the wellbeing of every child and working within the Safeguarding requirements

·      The ability to adapt quickly to changes and interact with children, team-members and parents for different purposes and contexts.

·      Approachable and caring with a passion for working with children and the outdoors.
